ASci lab pictureASci Corporation provides a wide range of laboratory testing services to clients worldwide. These services include aquatic toxicity and chemical fate testing for both complex effluents and single chemicals. ASci is also a leader in the performance of full spectrum acute and chronic Toxicity Identification Evaluations (TIEs). ASci's testing facility, displayed below, is located in Duluth, Minnesota, approximately 150 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul. The services provided by ASci's high tech laboratory include:

Aquatic Toxicology
Sediment Toxicology
Chemical Product Testing
Benthic Surveys

AQUATIC TOXICOLOGY

effluentEffluent Testing

ASci is successfully assisting municipal and industrial dischargers to comply with increasingly stringent water quality regulations. Test programs provide dischargers with accurate, cost-effective biological and chemical testing and monitoring services.

ASci has conducted a broad spectrum of acute and chronic toxicity tests using freshwater and marine plants, fish, and invertebrate species and is experienced in addressing federal and state biomonitoring policies and procedures.

Toxicity Identification Evaluations

ASci has extensive experience in performing TIEs with both acutely and chronically toxic effluents and aqueous fractions in sediments. Several of our staff were instrumental in developing the TIE guidance documents currently in use throughout the U.S. This experience has given ASci a distinct advantage for performing full-scale TIEs resulting in toxicity remediation.

SEDIMENT TOXICOLOGY

Increasing concern over sediment toxicity demands the implementation of accurate assessment techniques. ASci has the expertise necessary to evaluate the toxicity of bulk sediments, elutriates, and pore waters.

Both static and flow-through test systems are utilized to assess sediment quality effects on the standard selected test organisms. Static and flow-through systems are constructed according to current scientific design and understanding.

TIE procedures routinely applied to identify classes of compounds responsible for sediment toxicity. These capabilities allow us to provide a well-rounded approach for addressing issues such as dredge spoils disposal and site remediation.

CHEMICAL PRODUCT TESTING

ASci offers comprehensive environmental testing services. These services include testing of chemical products and genetically engineered microorganisms for registration worldwide. ASci assists the pesticide, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries, as well as industrial chemical manufacturers, with environmental evaluations of their products.

ASci's laboratory testing facility maintains state-of-the-art equipment and conducts testing in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) procedures. In addition to its full-service laboratory, ASci maintains a mobile laboratory unit for on-site analyses.

Ecotoxicity Testing

- aquatic toxicity tests for vertebrates and invertebrates
- seed germination and root elongation
- bioaccumulation/bioconcentration
- algal growth and toxicity

Microbiological Testing

- biodegradation
- activated sludge respiration
- microbial growth inhibition
- aerobic sewage treatment
- COD/BOD

Good Laboratory Practice

Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) and client confidentiality are integral parts of ASci's testing protocols. Our state-of-the-art laboratory conforms to current Good Laboratory Practice standards, as established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Reach Legislation

European chemical manufacturers and importers can look to ASci-ETL for help in meeting REACH requirements for all of their tonnage classifications. Our toxicology laboratory is dedicated to providing efficient, reliable GLP aquatic and sediment toxicity testing services. Some of our services include:

- Acute and chronic toxicity to daphnids and fish
- Freshwater and marine algal growth inhibition
- Bioaccumulation/bioconcentration with fish or invertebrates
- Activated sludge respiration inhibition
- Biodegradation studies

BENTHIC SURVEYS

benthicASci provides benthic enumeration and identification studies for a wide variety of ecological habitats. Some of our benthic study clients include the United States Corps of Engineers and the United States Department of Agriculture.

ASci-ETL is a high capacity laboratory geared towards providing our clients with timely, scientifically defensible data. For additional information, please contact Kurt Anderson at kanderson@ascicorp.com or at +01 (218) 722-4040.
